What is VDR? : The VDR will work with IDS to help identify hard to diagnose intermittent concerns that are difficult to duplicate in the service bay. The VDR can be attached to the vehicle and will capture technician-selected information just before and just after a concern occurs. This information will assist the technician with making a diagnosis and repair.

How it Works: The VDR attaches to the vehicle's Data Link Connector. The VDR then travels with the vehicle and captures the vehicle data when a concern occurs. The technician then hooks the VDR up to IDS and can play back up to 200 seconds of vehicle data readings. The technician can pre-set how much information to capture, on up to 8 different events, and predetermine length of recordings, and what events will trigger the recording, or simply have the driver press the button on the easy to use pendent and the VDR will record information.

FIRTFT: VDR will help technicians reduce customer comebacks, increase customer satisfaction, and improve Fix-It-Right-The-First-Time capabilities through the quick and accurate diagnosis of hard to duplicate concerns.

Technician Feedback from Pilot: “I'm sending you a copy of my first good find with the VDR. The complaint was "mil" activation with no drive concerns. This customer was waiting, so I thought this would be a good try out for the VDR. And as you can see, it did identify a t-p circuit concern. Now if I were to wait for a drive concern to appear I would have missed this recording... Good thing that the DTC CNT trigger activation is an un-selectable PID. I could have chosen more PIDs to record but the customer was waiting and so I only had a few minutes with this vehicle... So as you can see by this recording I did have a direction to go to fix this vehicle.” (Bill Babcock, Hines Park Ford Service)

Availability: The VDR is scheduled to be available 3rd quarter 2008. Contact 1-800-ROTUNDA Option #1 for pricing and availability.
