   Portable Diagnostic Software (PDS)

Portable Diagnostic Software (PDS):
PDS operates on approved Pocket-PC's, providing high end scan tool diagnostic software for use with a Vehicle Communication Module (VCM). PDS functionality is vehicle dependent and may include tools such as Self Test, Datalogger, Module Reprogramming, Power Balance, and many other Service Functions. As a portable scan tool, PDS can be used both in the service bay and for on-the-road testing. PDS is not intended to be used as the sole diagnostic tool. IDS provides 100% coverage.

PDS File Manager (PFM):
To support PDS, users will need access to a PC for software, database and module programming file updates. The PDS File Manager (PFM) application will run on your base PC and handle updating your PDS Pocket-PC with these software and file updates from the Web and/or DVD.

PDS Vehicle coverage:
PDS supports most Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles from 1996 forward that have a 16-pin DLC (OBDII) connector under the dash.

On vehicles with both a 16-pin connector and another connector, PDS supports only the modules on the 16-pin DLC (OBDII) link.

Actual vehicle and software coverage may vary. IDS (Integrated Diagnostic System) may be required for full functionality. The chart below compares PDS and IDS functionality.
