Overview:
Motorcraft offers a full suite of diagnostic tools ranging from the PDS scan tool to the full service diagnostic tool, IDS (Integrated Diagnostic Software).

With the arrival of the new Controller Area Network (CAN) vehicle communication protocol in 2003, Ford began moving to a flexible and modular diagnostic tools strategy that uses standard computing platforms (e.g. laptops, Pocket-PCs, etc.) with Ford's new VCM and VMM devices.

Hardware:
Ford's modular tool strategy has two pieces of hardware:

VCM
The Vehicle Communication Module (VCM) communicates with all Ford vehicles via the 16-pin diagnostic link. This single device is used by all Ford diagnostic software and is the core of the modular strategy. VCM ownership provides access to all the VCM software listed below.

VMM
The Vehicle Measurement Module (VMM) handles electronic and transducer based measurements. The VMM connected to a laptop offers the following functionality:

	Ignition System Test
	Fuel Pressure Test
	Fuel Leak-down Test
	Injector Flow Test
	Secondary Ignition
	Current Probe Functionality
	Oscilloscope
	Digital Multi-Meter
